House for rent on north coast
The house is located halfway between Mombasa and Kilifi, an hour’s drive from Mombasa airport. There are four double bedrooms all opening onto a wide upstairs balcony, three have double beds and one has bunk beds. We have an extra single bed in the biggest room, an additional sofa bed (plus a couple of hammocks on the balcony) so the house can easily take 10 people.
Downstairs a single large living space combines dining and living room and is decorated in traditional Swahili style. This opens onto a wide balcony with views straight to the ocean. There is a separate TV room with a DVD (for British PAL DVDs).
Our pool has a bar at the shallow end and great views to the ocean. Access to the coral beach below is by a 12 foot ladder - kids love splashing about in the rock pools at low tide. The brave could try diving off the platform at high tide (we haven't tried that one yet). There is access to a sandy beach 700 yards to the south. The gardener can arrange trips in a local fishing boat and snorkelling gear can be borrowed at the house.
We are extremely fortunate to have an international standard golf course 10 minutes drive away at Vipingo Ridge. www.vipingoridge.co.ke and in Nyali is one of Kenya’s finest golf courses. www.nyaligolf.co.ke There are now flights direct from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Vipingo three times a week on Safarilink airline so you no longer have to travel to Mombasa or Malindi. Golfers may pay the daily rate to play at Vipingo Ridge - Kenya’s premier course.
Vipingo estate has a large communal pool (that is rarely used). We have a mountain bike and a set of weights also.
We have a resident cook who will prepare fresh
meals for you. The fishermen often come to the house with the catch of the day
and fresh prawns and sea-food may be ordered from Kilifi. There is also a stock
of beer and soft drinks - anyone visiting can simply pay for the drinks consumed
(but bring your own wine and spirits). Tea, coffee and other basics are supplied
with the house. There is a Nakumatt supermarket at Nyali half-way to the house for other supplies.
The house is within an Estate that has an electric security fence all round so
this makes it very secure.

at high tide. There is access to a year-round sandy beach, which has crystal
clear water, 700 yards from the house. The gardener can arrange trips in a local
fishing boat and snorkelling gear can be borrowed at the house. There is a
marine conservation area next door and you can arrange snorkelling trips there
and they will even come and pick you up in the boat at high tide.
The large downstairs space plus the balcony space means the house could be used
for retreats for up to 10 people. We can arrange to book another house on the
estate if additional accommodation is needed.
The house has an alarm connected to KK Guards Rapid Response Unit.
The rental rate is 25,000/- low season to 30,000/- high season. Rates can be negotiated for longer stays.
